Alcohol and Drug Centers Info
Different
Alcohol and Drug Centers
Alcohol
and Drug Centers
can differ greatly in the types of services that they provide.
If you're attempting to
locate suitable alcohol and drug treatment centers for yourself
or a loved one, this website will give you an overview of the
different types of alcohol and drug rehab programs that are available.
Some are fairly expensive, running as much as forty to fifty thousand
dollars for a 30-day program, while others may be county funded,
county contracted or accept Medicaid, Medicare and insurance for
payment. Others don't accept any type of insurance, but their
fees are moderate, so they are reasonably priced alternatives
for those with limited or no insurance coverage at all.
Most
of the more than 10,000 alcohol and drug treatment centers in
the United States are 12-step oriented and Social Model (they
emphasize learning through "doing and experiencing" while providing
positive role models) in nature. Other philosophical differences
might be non 12-step, gender specific, Christian Based or Christ
Centered, holistic treatment programs, dual diagnosis with treatment
for co-occurring disorder and court or probation approved
rehab centers to name a few.
Examples
of different levels of care are day treatment or outpatient
care, where the client attends group and other recovery activities
3 or 4 hours per day and usually 3 to 5 days per week, detox
or detoxification which is normally inpatient and can be completed
in 7 to 10 days for most substances with the exception of some
synthetic opiates and short and long-term primary residential
rehabs, where the clients reside at the alcohol and drug centers
for the duration of their treatment.
Primary,
residential drug and alcohol treatment programs normally last
21 to 45 days in length, though some long-term center's programs
can be a year or more in length. Weekly out-patient aftercare
groups can continue for 6 months to a year and usually focus on
relapse prevention and "living life on life's terms".
Most
alcohol and drug rehab programs provide at least some of the
following services; individual counseling, group counseling,
behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, substance abuse education
classes, lectures and workshops. Many offer services such as
family and relationship counseling, exercise programs and job
search skills. While some even make massage therapy and acupuncture
available to their clients. The ultimate goal of nearly all
alcohol and drug centers is total abstinence and long-term sobriety.
Success
rates for Drug and Alcohol Centers are almost
impossible to calculate accurately since graduates are scattered
all around the country and an alcohol and drug
treatment center's success should be based on the client's
success after he or she leaves the rehab program. The success
of each client should be the client's responsibility, not the
rehab program's responsibility. The rehab program is responsible
for providing the client with the proper information to acheive
and maintain sobriety, however they have very little control over
what the client does with it when they leave the center.
If
an addict puts 100% of his or her available effort into his or
her recovery, the chances for success are about 100%.
